A. Only white children were allowed to attend the earliest boarding schools.

掌握快速阅读之后,在阅读文章、材料的时候可以快速的提取段落、文章的脉络和重点,促进整理归纳分析,提高做提效率;

1.迅速将整篇文章分解,理出文章结构;

2.迅速抓住文章叙述的主题;

一般段为主题段,也就是说,整A. practd篇文章要表达的主题一定会出现在这里,你要做的就是迅速把中心句找出来,一般来说,中心句会出现在倒数第2句或第1句,简单一点的文章会在第1句就出现,如果考题出得比较难,也可能需要自己总结,但就算需要自己总结中心句,也一定能在该段落中找出代表中心意思的词;

You should enjoy life’s pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your forite music, or spending time with close friends. People who he sral close friends often live happier and healthier lives.

Another secret to living a happy life is to be active, and he hobbies where you forget your problems and time. Many people experience this dancing, or playing a sport, such as swimming. For those who study the dlopment of ince (智力) in the animal world,self-awareness is an important measurement. An animal that is aware (意识) of itself has a high ll of ince.

Awareness can be tested by studying wher the animal recognizes itself in the ror, that is, its own reflected image Many animals fail this exercise bitterly, paying very little attention to the reflected image. Only humans,and some int animals like apes and dolphins,he been shown to recognize that the image in the ror is of themselves.

Now another animal has joined the club. In the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers report that an Asian elephant has passed the ror self-reflection test.

“We thought that elephants were the next important animal,”said Diana Reiss of the Wildlife Conservation Society, an author of the study with Joshua M. Plotnik and Fans B. M. de Waal of Emory University. With their large brains,Reiss said, elephants “seemed like cousins to apes and dolphins.”

The researchers tested Happy. Maxine and Patty, three elephants at the Bronx Zoo. They put an 8-foot-square ror on a wall of the animals' play area (out of the sight of zoo visitors) and recorded what happened with cameras, including one built in the ror.

The elephants used their long noses to find what was behind it,and to examine parts of their bodies.

Of the three, Happy then passed the test,in which a clear mark was painted on one side of her face. She could l the mark was there by looking in the ror, and she used the ror to touch the mark with her long nose.

Diana Reiss said,“We knew elephants were int, but now we can talk about their ince in a better way.”

Reading is a pleasure of the mind, which means that it is a little like a sport: your eagerness and knowledge and quickness make you a good reader. Reading is fun, not because the writer is ling you soming, but because it makes your mind work. Your own imagination works along with the author's or n goes beyond his. Your experience, compared with his, brings you to the same or different conclusions, and your ideas dlop as you understand his.

Every book stands by itself, like a one-family house, but books in a library are like houses in a city. Although they are separate, toger they all add up to soming; they are connected with each other and with other cities. The same ideas, or related ones, turn up in different places; the human problems that repeat themselves in life repeat themselves in literature, but with different solutions according to different writings at different times.

Reading can only be fun if you expect it to be. If you concentrate on books somebody ls you "ought" to read, you probably won't he fun. But if you put down a book you don't like and try another till you find one that means soming to you, and then relax with it, you will almost certainly he a good time--and if you become as a result of reading, better, wiser, kinder, or more gentle, you won't he suffered during the process.

Like most people, I was brought up to look upon life as a process of getting. It was not until in my late thirties that I made this important discovery: giving-away makes life so much more exciting. You need not worry if you lack money. This is how I experimented with giving-away. If an idea for improving the window display of a neighborhood store flashes to me, I step in and make the suggestion to the storekeeper. One discovery I made about giving-away is that it is almost imsible to give away anything in this world without getting soming back, though the return often comes in an unexpected form. One Sunday morning the local t off delivered an important special delivery letter to my home, though it was addressed to me at my off. I wrote the t a note of appreciation. More than a year later I needed a t-off box for a new business I was starting. I was told at the window that there were no boxes left, and that my name would he to go on a long waiting list. As I was about to lee, the t appeared in the doorway. He had overheard our conversation. “Wasn’t it you that wrote us that letter a year ago about delivering a special delivery to your home?” I said yes. “Well, you certainly are going to he a box in this t off if we he to make one for you. You don’t know what a letter like that means to us. We usually get nothing but complaints.”
