This article is about the slang word homie. Homie is also a nickname for Homer Simpson

Homie or homey, sometimes homes (used in the singular) is slang for friend. For example, "My homie is coming over later." Also used in the form of homeboy and homegirl, which are sometimes shortened to simply boy and girl. When shortened to boy or girl it is often preceded by the possessive "my".

This term is usually used by the urban crowd. It may refer to the boys, or friends, who live near your home; that is, neighborhood friends.

The word was the inspiration for a line of small, plastic figurines called "Homies". Homies can be bought for 50 cents in gumball-style machines, or in sets at retail stores, including Tower Records.

Homie may also refer to the character "Homie the Clown", from the popular 1990s sketch comedy series In Living Color. Played by Damon Wayans, Homie was a convicted felon forced to become a children's clown, who subsequently fought violently against the stereotype. This character popularized the saying "Homie don't play that", still used today by people who don't understand its origin.
